Can I get Some Attention?

Everyone in this house wants special attention from mommy. It starts with Christina: "Tati [which means auntie in kreyol], I ran really fast at track practice. Are you coming to my track meet on Friday?" Christian says, " Tati, I gotta show you the soccer technique I did at practice. It was a great goal!" Sariah:" mommy, I need you. Can I give you a hug?" Amirah:"Mommy...." Tristan puts his hands up in the air for me to take him out of his chair to hold him...all of this is happening at the same time. So everyone wants me to stroke their ego, and tell them how great they are...everyone wants to be heard. I'm not sure how many of you moms encounter this, but this is somewhat of a daily routine.
So, what does an exhausted mother do to accommodate all of this attention-giving? Give all of them equally shared attention. While that doesn't make sense to most, it is possible. While having Tristan and Amirah each sit on a lap, Sariah tells me her story and simultaneously I'm watching Christian and Christina demonstrate their sport techniques. I'll be honest, sometimes I'm not paying any attention to what's being said or done, but they can't tell.
Kid are actually quite simple - they want to be loved and given "lots" of attention. Hmmm, I think that's what most adults want too...but somehow we complicate things by asking for the love and attention to be given a certain way - we have parameters and requests for how we want


attention...and that's why interacting with kids is not as stressful as people think :)

Hands-on Dads

As always, I got my "hi mommy" welcome as soon as I walked thought the door after a long day at work. The past 2 moths have been so busy at work, that when I get home, I have so little energy. To all those working ms out there, extra kudos. I came home, got love from my nest and hubby, and proceeded to get dinner ready. What made the day so much lighter was when I realized that hubby already had the nest in PJs and they l already ate dinner. Thank you Lord for a husband who is such a hands-on father. As many know, I have 3 of my own children under the age of 5, and also am the guardian of my twin niece And nephew who are 13. Can we say "full house". People always say, "I don't know how you do it"! I know how, it's called the Lord, our father. This is when I get some "me time"...that moment when it is silent. As mothers we all know that while we love our kids, silence is truly priceless. Anyhow, if you have a hands-on partner in the household helping with the kids, remember to say that simple phrase - thank you!
